Center for Educational Partnerships: November 5th Events


The Center for Educational Partnerships at GSE is pleased to offer 4 exciting events on November 5th, 2013.  All institutes/workshops will be held at the Fordham Lincoln Center campus.

1. Building Science Knowledge with English Language Learners K-12
8:30am-3:00pm
For: Elementary and secondary school teachers, coaches and supervisors

Description: Participants will gain an understanding of the tools necessary to develop student's skills in a 21st century science ELL classroom; will learn literacy strategies that will assist them with incorporating the instructional shifts, Common Core Learning Standards, and Danielson's framework, while keeping inquiry as the focal point of the science classroom. ELL strategies will be identified and demonstrated using science lessons.

2. Data Driven Instruction for Literacy K-5
8:30am-3:00pm
For: Elementary School Teachers, Coaches & Supervisors responsible for literacy instruction

Description: The Common Core Learning Standards will be used as a framework for school-wide improvement and support of all students by using data driven instruction. We will look at various data sources to guide us in evaluating, analyzing and monitoring student performance to guide us in the process of making informed decisions to help improve the success of all students for college and career. In addition to data, we will focus on the instructional aspect within the classroom which will include rigorous instruction, high level of questioning and differentiation that will pro-mote a community of learners. We will culminate the session with the creation of an action plan to put in effect within our schools.

3. Reaching & Teaching All Learners in the Diverse & Multicultural Classroom K-12
8:30am-3:00pm
For: Elementary and secondary school teachers, counselors, and special educators

Description: This two-part session focuses on the challenges and rewards of working with students, their families and communities from diverse background as well as diverse learners and students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

4. Strengthening Foundations for the Common Core Learning Standards
8:30am-3:00pm
For: Elementary school teachers, coaches and supervisors responsible for mathematics instruction

Description: In recognition of the key role you play as foundation builders, this session will focus on developing, strengthening and extending the CCLS’s number sense, op-erations and algebraic thinking through classroom tested instructional strategies and research–based resources. Further, we will review and share resources which support the ongoing implementation of the shifts in mathematics and the eight practices in math.
