Faculty in the News: Dr. Vincent Alfonso on Occupy Wall Street

The November 1, 2011 online edition of Forbes features Dr. Vincent Alfonso (GSE Professor of School Psychology) commenting on the "Do's and Don'ts" of educating children about Occupy Wall Street.  The article by Meghan Cassery (Forbes staff), entitled "The Endless Teachable Moments of Occupy Wall Street," discusses the need for parents to provide a responsible, informed context for the increasing number of children conscious through multimedia of the protest:

"In last week’s Style Section, Helaine Olen looked at the increasing presence of the under-twelve set at Manhattan’s Zucotti Park, where parents are using the Occupy Wall Street protests as a “teachable moment.” Childrens reading libraries, organized sleep-overs and Halloween costumes, it seems the littlest protesters are getting more attention each week.  And if there’s one thing you can be sure of about children, it’s that they have questions. For the parents of Occupy Wall Street, it means providing answers."
