New York State "Day on the Hill"

On June 6th and 7th, GSE Assistant Dean for Admissions Linda Horisk participated in the inaugural New York State "Day on the Hill" for Schools of Education, held in Albany, NY.  The New York "Day on the Hill" is modeled after the annual "Day on the Hill" sponsored by the American Association of College Teacher Education(AACTE) in Washington D.C.  The purpose of the Day is to expand networking across higher education sectors on professional issues related to teacher and school leader preparation, advocate and share best practices in state policy arenas, and enhance statewide capacity through high-quality and innovative programs, evidence-based preparations, and continuing professional learning.

In its inaugural year of this initiative, the New York State “Day on the Hill” also served to build relationships between elected officials and leaders of higher education institutions with teacher and school leader programs, so as to enhance the opportunities for programs to serve as resources to elected officials within their regions. While in Albany, Assistant Dean Horisk met with staff members of New York State Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal (Manhattan, District 67), Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (Westchester, District 37), and Senator Thomas Duane (Manhattan, District 29).
